I don’t think you wake up one day and decide to make a book. This book began about six years ago when I was writing the first poems, when I had first left Karachi, my home, my family, and arrived in the US. The thought of making a book did not really enter my mind. I was quite simply just writing and returning to these poems. Many have changed so much that it's hard to recognize the first version of them but some aspect of them still remains. The poems were written in a four-year period where I barely went home and the photos come from a year in which I finally went back.
